VÍRUS MONKEYPOX E PROFISSIONAIS DE SAÚDE: PROTOCOLO DE INTERVENÇÃO NUM HOSPITAL TERCIÁRIO PORTUGUÊS
Synopsis
Introduction: Monkeypox virus (MPVX) poses a significant zoonotic infectious threat, characterized by vesiculo-pustular skin eruptions and systemic involvement, which can can be transmitted in hospital settings to healthcare professionals (HCPs) who provide direct care to infected patients. Objectives: This study aims to introduce a comprehensive protocol aimed at guiding healthcare professionals, particularly those with direct patient contact, in the identification, control, and prevention of occupational transmission of the MPVX virus. Methodology: A review of the main clinical guidelines from the General Directorate of Health (DGS); Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) was conducted in order to find the key recommendations for healthcare professionals. Results/Conclusion: The effective implementation of this protocol contributes significantly to the protection of healthcare professionals and the containment of Monkeypox virus spread within hospital environments. By prioritizing safety and well-being during the care of infected patients, this protocol represents a vital tool in managing and mitigating the impact of Monkeypox virus infections in healthcare settings.
