Synopsis
Meningitis can clinically present itself as self-limiting (viral meningitis) or as fulminant and fatal
(meningococcal meningitis). The severity of the disease and the easy transmission of the infectious agent between an index case and healthcare professionals require effective infection control strategies to prevent occupational exposure from contributing to an infectious outbreak.
