Sinopse

Background: Work-related musculoskeletal injuries affect workers, resulting in pain, functional limitations, and reduced productivity, and can interfere with sleep quality. Objective: To characterise the employees of a company and analyse the association between musculoskeletal symptoms and sleep quality. Method: Cross-sectional analytical observational study with 47 employees from a label company, who completed a questionnaire to characterise the sample, the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Index. Results: 93.6 % of workers performed repetitive movements and 89.4 % of them reported that the hand region was the most affected. Symptoms in the lumbar region were the most responsible for interrupting activities (37.8 %) and were self-reported with greater pain intensity in the group with poor sleep quality. Spearman's correlation coefficient between sleep quality and low back pain showed a positive, non-statistically significant correlation (p=0.290). Conclusion: Most workers are female, work in a standing position and more than half are overweight. Symptoms in the lumbar region were the most self-reported, and sleep quality was poor in most workers. Application: Physiotherapy can reduce costs, absenteeism and increase work efficiency
