BURNOUT AND HEALTH IN RADIOLOGISTS, NUCLEAR MEDICINE OR RADIOTHERAPY PROFESSIONALS
Sinopse
In everyday life, both personally and professionally, human beings face various adversities. In healthcare professionals, sometimes more than in other professionals, occupational stress factors are
varied and, in many cases, have a major impact on their health, triggering burnout syndrome. Objectives: To study burnout levels among radiologists, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine specialists, and the factors that predict burnout. Methodology: The study presented was observational, analytical and cross-sectional. The sample consisted of 70 professionals from the fields of Radiology, Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine. Burnout levels were assessed using the CBI-PT. Results: A large proportion of professionals presented high levels of burnout, particularly in the “Personal Burnout” dimension. Radiotherapy professionals are the most affected. There are significant differences in burnout levels in terms of gender and shift work. There are significant relationships between sleep quality, hours of sleep per day, and burnout. The results also show that the variables gender, sleep quality, hours of sleep per day, and professional area have an influence on the onset of burnout. Conclusions: It is important to raise awareness of this issue and to take measures to both prevent and treat healthcare professionals with burnout syndrome.
